The ocean cleanup
The ocean cleanup is a non profit organization, established by Boyan Slat. They develop new technologies, that help cleaning plastic in the ocean. Currently they are using system 002(jenny). It is a u-shaped barrier which is 800 meters long and 3 meters deep. It is carried by 2 vessels. In the center of barrier there is collection zone, once a week it is emptied, and the plastic is send to recycle. The ocean cleanup say, that 80% plastic in oceans comes from 1000 most pollutted rivers, so they developed the interceptor. The interceptor collects almost all of the plastic floating down the river, and it allows boats to still pass it. It is fully solar-powered, and it is fully automated. When it is almost full, it sends a message to local operator, which come empty it on the side of the river, and send trash to local waste management.

This all sounds very clever. I wonder what the scale of this enterprise is - is it enough to cope with the massive plastic pollution that we are facing?
